WhatsApp is working on surveys and updating the privacy policy

The WhatsApp team works continuously to add new features within their messaging app, and we are often updated on their progress through the Beta versions of the app. Last week, in the latest beta of Whatsapp for iOS (version 22.6.0.70) was discovered a new functionality which, for many users, could prove useful: it will be possible to create surveys within WhatsApp group chats. To a novelty clear and in the development phase, a slightly darker one corresponds to the umpteenth update of the privacy disclaimer of the service.

New privacy policy coming soon?

The team of Whatsapp would like (and so much) that its users were aware of the content of its own Dante “Privacy Policy for Residents of Europe”, last updated on November 22, 2021. It could happen to you these days that, by opening Whatsappyou will find a warning like this at the top of the chat list:

In our Privacy Policy, we provide you with more information on how we use your data. Find out more“.

This message could therefore be an anticipation of a new update of the document.

By clicking on the “find out more” contained in the notice, the user will be redirected to a web page (this) which acts as a prologue (eh .. you wanted!) to the information privacy real (reachable, instead, at this other page).

The team of Whatsapp informs us that it is “updating our Privacy Policy for European Residents”, underlining that it understands that privacy is very important to its users, and communicating that it has simply reorganized the information to facilitate consultation.

The first traces of the Surveys on WhatsApp

Leaving aside the thorny issues, come on Whatsapp it will soon be possible to create a survey within group chats; it is a feature that could be useful in some situations, especially when there is a need to organize something that involves a collective decision, or, simply, when you are hunting for opinions.

The functionality certainly does not scream a miracle since it is something already seen in other platforms such as, for example, Telegram, a very complete messaging app from which the WhatsApp team continues to “take inspiration” for the new features to be implemented at the inside its app.

The track found in the beta of WhatsApp for iOS is shown to us through a screenshot (image below) provided by the usual portal WaBetaInfo; Within a group chat, when the user creates a survey, the app will first ask him to enter a question.

Subsequently, probably, it will be possible to insert (at least) a couple of possible choices to be fed to the other members of the group. All this in a safe way, since questions and results should only be visible to members of the same group in which the survey is placed.

When will the polls arrive in the Android version?

Let’s not forget that, from the analysis of the latest WhatsApp Beta versions released, it emerged that the WhatsApp team is working on many other features such as, for example, pausing and resuming the recording of a voice message and the Reactions.

It would not surprise us, therefore, if this functionality for create polls within group chats, spotted in the version for iOS Of Whatsapp, may soon also arrive on the Android counterpart of the app; clearly, at the moment there is no news about the timing.

If you don’t want to miss the latest preview news, we advise you to subscribe to the WhatsApp Beta Program directly via the Google Play Store (you can find the page dedicated to the program by following this link).
