We confess: at the beginning we made the mistake of considering Oppo Find X5 as the result of a compromise. Or, if you prefer, as the inevitable middle ground. On the one hand we have Find X5 Pro, the super top of the range of the Chinese giant, on the other Find X5 Lite, which is positioned in the mid-range of the market. Oppo Find X5 does not position itself in the center of this line. We can actually consider it a more compact version of the Prowhich loses a little bit from a hardware point of view but without affecting the user experience.
Oppo Find X5 vs Oppo Find X5 Pro: what changes?
We noticed the first difference as soon as we took the smartphone out of the box. Oppo Find X5 is more compact than the older brother. A few millimeters which, however, make the handle even more comfortable and satisfying.
The weight also decreases: Find X5 stops in fact at 196 grams, against 218 grams of the Pro. Here, although the more than 20 grams of difference are evident for the scale, they are not during daily use. In fact, on both smartphones the Chinese company has done an excellent job of balancing, making use comfortable even in the long term.
Aesthetically, the two models are practically the same but the materials change. Oppo Find X5 Pro boasts ceramic finishes that we lose on the younger brother in favor of an opaque glass back cover which leaves no room for fingerprints and which still gives a premium appearance to the product.
On Oppo Find X5 then we find a slightly smaller screen – 6.55 inches versus the Pro’s 6.7 inches – with FullHD + resolution and lower pixel density. The brightness also drops, which stops at 1000 nits, while the refresh rate remains unchanged, which reaches 120 Hz.
The processor is also different: Oppo Find X5 renounces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in favor of the Snapdragon 888 5Gaccompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory.
On the other hand, there are no differences either on the connectivity or on the software front, with both smartphones they use ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12.
Change the battery instead. Here we have 4,800 mAh instead of the 5,000 mAh of the Pro. Both models can then rely on the fast charging at 80W while the wireless one is at 50W on Find X5 Pro and at 30W on Find X5.
And the photographic sector? Here the situation is almost unchanged. We lose the 5-axis stabilization on the main sensor but the configuration is the sametherefore with a 50 MP wide-angle lens, a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and the 13 megapixel telephoto lens with excellent 2x zoom and 20x digital zoom.
The price? € 999.99 for Oppo Find X5 and € 1,299.99 for the Find X5 Pro.
The Oppo Find X5 review: everyday use
We spent several days in the company of the Oppo Find X5, and we loved it. The elegant and refined design sets it apart from most of the competitionwith the cover included in the package that does not hide its sinuous lines, protecting both the body and the photographic compartment at the same time.
The dimensions and the curved display at the edges make it easy to grip the smartphone, while the Gorilla Glass Victus allows you to sleep peacefully.
The viewing experience offered by the 6.55-inch OLED panel is top notch. Despite the small differences with the Pro version, you can count on a truly excellent color rendering, deep blacks and the ability to customize the display by choosing between the four display options available:
Know that there is no better mode than others. They simply suit different tastes and purposes. And nothing forces you to always keep the same.
The settings also allow you to change the color temperature, to activate the Visual Comfort mode which filters part of the blue light, and to use the features related to the 01 Ultra Vision engine that can improve sharpness, color and HDR. There is also the Color vision test, also present on the Pro version and designed to calibrate the display to meet your specific way of perceiving the different shades. In short, Oppo puts everything you need in your hands to adapt the screen to your needs.
The performance of this Find X5 is also excellent. Although he is not the latest arrival, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor manages to guarantee performance from a true top of the range, without sacrifices and without slowdowns. We’ve really used it for everything from watching TV series to gaming, and we’ve never seen it hesitate once.
We did not miss the 12 GB of RAM on the Pro. 8 GB is more than enough and you have the option to expand the RAM by “stealing” a handful of Giga from the storage space. With a few taps you can get an additional 2, 3 or 5 GB, which, although it never seemed necessary to us, compensates for the difference with the Pro.
Connectivity is entrusted to the dedicated 5G modem, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and USB-C port, while the software, as anticipated, is the ColorOS 12.1 which really lacks nothing. Oppo’s interface now integrates as well the new Material You by Google, which allows you to reach a new level of aesthetic personalization, not to mention the numerous features designed to ensure privacy.
We conclude with the 4,800 mAh battery, which brings you smoothly to the end of the day. Once you are short of energy, you can take advantage of the SuperVOOC 80W recharge to go from 0 to 100% in about 30 minutes.
The photographic sector
The photographic sector of Oppo Find X5 consists of a 50 MP Sony IMX766 main sensor with optical stabilization, an IMX766 ultra-wide angle lens always from 50 MP and a 13 megapixel telephoto lens. In addition we have the 32 megapixel front camera.
If you have a feeling of déjà-vù it is understandable: it’s the same combination we find on the Oppo Find X5 Pro. That’s why the results are practicalat least the same.
The main sensor gives us high-quality shots, with an excellent color range, lots of details and just as much sharpness. The collaboration with Hasselblad then it guarantees very natural colors, without excessive saturation and without phenomena of chromatic aberration.
Even photos in the dark are fully convincingwith minimal noise and a good amount of detail.
Too bad only for the focus, not always lightning fast, but on balance it is impossible not to be satisfied with this camera.
For those who are looking for particularly spectacular shots, there is the XPAN mode of Hasselblad, with a horizontal format with an unusual relationship that manages to make any photograph incredibly incisive.
Also promoted the ultra-wide lens, with well-contrasted photographs characterized by an excellent color balance. The 2x zoom is stable and very reliablebut we advise you not to go further: with the 5x hybrid or 20x digital zoom you lose definition and detail.
Oppo has also placed great attention on the video part, with MariSilicon X, the Neural Processing Unit dedicated solely to the photographic sector, which optimizes movies for more than convincing results even in the dark. Also available is the Film mode that allows you to shoot videos in LOG and then make the color correction later.
The Oppo Find X5 review: conclusions
Attractive design, an excellent display, top-of-the-range performance and a complete photographic sector, which also benefits from the collaboration with Hasselblad. The Oppo Find X5 really lacks nothing. It is a top of the range made and finished, which can count on a more compact form factor and a lower weight.
Which scethen between him and Oppo Find X5 Pro? It depends on you. The Pro undoubtedly offers something more in terms of performance, screen rendering and photographic capabilities but you may not necessarily need all of this. If these are elements that don’t make a difference for you, then Oppo Find X5 could be the right choice.
