Telegram updated its apps for iOS and Android on September 19, 2021 to introduce new features including different themes for individual chats, interactive emojis with full-screen effects to share feelings with loved ones, detailed read receipts in groups and recording of video and audio from live broadcasts. Chat themes
Telegram has several features that help keep chats in order and customize their appearance, from Chat Folders to Live Wallpapers. Now, Telegram offers themes for individual chats: at the debut there are eight of them available to apply to specific private chats. These first themes feature colorful message bubbles, animated wallpapers and unique background patterns. Both users of an individual chat can choose the theme for both. Each theme comes with a day and night version, with each activating based on the app’s night mode settings.
To set up an individual chat theme in Telegram:
– on Android: tap the chat title, then the three vertical dots icon and then on ‘Change colors’;
– on iOS: tap the chat title, then the three horizontal dots icon and then on ‘Change colors’;
Note: if you set a theme in an individual chat, the other chat user will only see the updated theme on their device if they are using the latest version of Telegram.
Telegram – Interactive emojis
Animated emojis are one of the most popular features for Telegram users, but sometimes they are not enough to express their feelings. Now, Telegram offers a new way to share emotions in real time: interactive emojis. It is possible to send a single emoji in any private chat and then touch it on the screen to activate a full screen effect. If both users of a conversation have chat open, the animations and vibrations are played simultaneously on the devices, so both can feel close even if far away. Initially, interactivity in emojis that support it is only available on a selection of emojis, which are: fireworks, party confetti cone, red balloon, thumbs up, poop, heart. Telegram has promised that others will be added to these in the future.

Read confirmations in small groups
Both chat themes and interactive emojis currently only work in private chats. Since this update, in groups on Telegram messages are marked as read (double tick) when another member sees them. In small groups, you can now select a sent message to see which group members have read it. To protect user privacy, read receipts in groups are only saved for 7 days after sending the message.
Recording of live streaming and Video chat
Telegram hosts millions of communities that can create live events for an unlimited number of viewers. Whether it’s a once-in-a-lifetime gig or a daily algebra class, administrators can now record Live Streaming and Video Chat and post recordings for those who missed the stream.
Administrators can start a recording directly from the Live Stream or Video Chat menu – with the options to Record Video and Audio or Audio Only. To record video, you must choose an orientation for the final video file, Vertical or Horizontal. At the end of a recording or broadcast, the file is instantly uploaded to your Saved Messages.
How to record live streaming and video chats on Telegram:
press the three dots icon (vertical on Android, horizontal on iOS) to open the broadcast menu and start recording. While recording, a red dot is shown next to the broadcast title.
