Six of the ten best-selling smartphone models in Q4 2021 are 5G


5G smartphones are progressively displacing those stuck to the connectivity of the previous generation in terms of sales numbers and the situation has become quite evident in the last part of 2021.

We had already talked to you about the overtaking now underway in recent weeks, but now we reopen the topic thanks to the new report published yesterday by Strategy Analytics.

5G smartphone: 6 out of 10 in Q4 2021

The Strategy Analytics report is titled “Global Top-500 Smartphone Shipments, ASP, and Price Band by Model with Specs: Q4 2021“.

The study shows once again the primary role played by Appleboth as regards the spread of smartphones equipped with 5G connectivity, and in general for its role as trend-setter and for industry sales.

The report, in fact, includes a very interesting graph in which the ranking of ten best-selling smartphone models globally and even half is represented by Apple’s iPhone; only two models are from Samsung, as many from Xiaomi and one – somewhat surprisingly – from HONOR. Among the growing brands, OPPO’s top model did not go beyond position 17, while Realme’s model occupies number 22. Lenovo Motorola is placed one model in thirtieth position, while Vivo’s best-selling model is thirty-first.

The models that make up this Top 10 also accounted for 26% of global shipments; 6 models out of 10 that make up the ranking, referring to Q4 2021I’m 5G and the same goes for half of the models that make up the Top 20 of the same reference period.

The best-selling foldable in the Q4 2021 was Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G (of which you can find our review at this link), out of the top 10, but occupying an interesting sixteenth position in terms of volumes of shipments, a sign that folding smartphones they are finally becoming mainstream.

In addition to those already mentioned, the report highlights some other relevant data of this Top 10, namely:

  • five of the ten models are in the $ 600 + price range, Redmi 9A being the cheapest;
  • five models have Apple processors, two Qualcomm, two MediaTek and one Samsung;
  • eight out of ten models have OLED displays;
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G is the one with the largest battery in terms of capacity, iPhone 12 5G has the smallest one;
  • five out of ten models have displays with at least 457 ppi, Samsung Galaxy A12 being the worst;
  • HONOR 50 is the one with the main sensor with more megapixels (108)
  • Samsung Galaxy A51 and HONOR 50 are the ones with the most megapixel front camera;
  • Apple iPhone 12 5G is the thinnest (7.4mm), Redmi 9A the thickest.

Moving on, the Strategy Analytics report highlights how among the 500 best-selling models worldwide in the fourth quarter of last year, 69 each were of Xiaomi and of I live64 per brand OPPO53 of Samsung and 42 of Realme. Adding up the numbers of the various brands, the dominance of the colossus BBK Electronics it is evident and impressive. The study also emphasizes the position of HONORwhich in Q4 2021 reported very strong growth, reaching 20 models in the top 500.
