Samsung tests One UI 4 with Android 12 on the Galaxy S21 Series

Samsung Electronics has opened the beta testing program One UI 4 Beta Program for smartphones from Samsung Galaxy S21 series (Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 + And Galaxy S21 Ultra). One UI 4 is the newest iteration of the user interface for Samsung Galaxy devices and is based on the operating system (OS) Android 12 introducing new and improved personalization and privacy features that give users control over many aspects of their mobile experience.

“A UI 4 helps users create their own optimized mobile experience because Samsung recognizes that everyone wants to meet their unique needs and preferences.” said Dr. TM Roh, president and head of mobile communications at Samsung Electronics. “As we have done with every iteration of our One UI, we have listened to our users to understand the tools and innovations needed to create a better, more reliable and improved overall user experience.”

The One UI 4 Beta Program allows users to try the updated features of One UI 4 before its official release expected by the end of 2021. Owners of a Samsung Galaxy S21 series device (Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 +, and Galaxy S21 Ultra) in select markets (South Korea, China, India, Germany, Poland, UK and US) can sign up for the beta program via the Samsung Members app directly on their devices. Attendees will be able to preview the One UI 4 design and some new features by sending feedback directly to the Samdung developer team. Team that will use the information gathered by the beta program to fine-tune the One UI 4 user experience before starting the distribution of the update in its first final build since the end of this year.

Samsung has never opened the One UI Beta Program in Italy, so it’s no surprise that beta testing of the new One UI 4 hasn’t opened for users in the Bel Paese.

After the Galaxy S21 series begins to be updated with One UI 4 from the end of the year, in the following weeks and months other models of compatible existing devices will also receive the update: an official list is not yet available.

Samsung is developing One UI 4 to deliver a unified mobile experience across Galaxy smartphones, through streamlined and optimized interactions and a clean, elegant design.

One UI 4 introduces new ways to personalize your device and make it even more unique for each user. Starting with a series of themes that allow you to configure your home screens, icons, notifications, wallpapers and much more. And then there are the redesigned widgets even more customizable, from visibility to appearance. New emojis are also introduced for richer communication experiences.

The new One UI 4 also offers advanced security and privacy features which make it easier to understand exactly how your data is used to customize your settings and deliver a more personalized mobile experience. Among them, from Android 12 the One UI 4 retains the new indicators in the status bar which make it clear at a glance and in real time when there are apps that are accessing the microphone or camera. It is therefore possible to quickly block access for all apps to microphone and camera via the two new options in ‘Quick settings’.

Google in Android 12 introduced the new privacy control panel, which also offers a Quick view of the permissions granted to apps last 24 hours: Samsung in One UI 4 expands this time, allowing you to view the history of permissions granted to apps over the past seven days, not just the last 24 hours. In this panel you can also check the data usage by apps.
