Samsung Electronics has announced the start of rolling out a major firmware update for its smartwatches Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic, with innovations to customize your wearable through new dials but also to help you reach your health and wellness goals. These include advanced interval training designed for cyclists or runners of any skill level, a new sleep coaching program, and new body composition information. And then new bands for the Galaxy Watch4 Series are coming to market.

This software update will be available via the Galaxy Wearable app for Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic starting February 10, 2022. Availability of the new bands is expected to start in late February 2022.

New tools to motivate you to train
This update introduces better insights into the data the watch collects through measuring the body composition (weight, percentage of fat mass, BMI, muscle mass, fat mass, body water, basal metabolic rate – BMR). Samsung Health will also provide body composition insights based on Centr (initially only available in English), a digital fitness program curated by Chris Hemsworth, to help transform your health, fitness and mindset. Galaxy Watch4 users have a 30-day free trial for full and unlimited access to Centr (only for new customers who register with Centr through Samsung Health on Centr.com), with automatic renewal for a fee upon completion unless automatic renewal is deactivated.
This update also introduces the new feature of target range from Samsung for runners and cyclists I allow them to preset the duration, distance and serial number for their workout. Starting from here, Galaxy Watch4 guides them through a personalized intensity training session with a series of high-intensity workouts interspersed with low-intensity workouts, creating a focused, impactful workout every time.
Samsung is also continuing its partnership with apps like adidas Running and Strava to help Samsung Health users stay in shape.

New sleep coaching program
Building on the Galaxy Watch4’s sleep tracking capabilities, the new sleep coaching program that this update introduces is to help develop better sleep habits. By tracking sleep quality for seven days and completing two related sleep surveys, the program representing the recognized sleep type assigns the user one of eight sleep symbol animals (Indifferent Lion, Sensitive Hedgehog, Nervous Penguin, Sun-averse Mole , Cautious deer, accommodating walrus, hunting alligator, exhausted shark). Additionally, it will guide you through a four- to five-week program that includes missions, sleep-related articles, meditation guide, and regular data analysis to help improve the quality of your sleep.

Automatic shutdown of smart lights when Galaxy Watch4 detects that the user is asleep
For users who have configured smart lights connected to Samsung SmartThings in their smart home, from this update Galaxy Watch4 can recognize when they fall asleep and automatically turn off lights connected to the Samsung platform to manage the smart home to create better sleep conditions. It is necessary to have the Samsung Watch app (v. 12.1.10.5 or later), Samsung SmartThings (v. 1.7.59.23 or later) and SmartThings Framework (v1.4.1 or later) installed on the smartphone connected to the updated watch new update.
New dials and straps
This Galaxy Watch4 update introduces new watch faces through which users can further customize the watch face with additional digital watch colors and fonts. In addition, new colors for the silicone bands such as burgundy and cream will be available, as well as the new textile band and link bracelet.

In 2021, Samsung and Google introduced the co-developed Wear OS Powered by Samsunga version of Google’s Wear OS combined with the best of Tizen OS for wearables, offering smoother connections between Android devices and seamless access to multiple apps via Google Play, including Google Maps, Google Pay and YouTube Music. Soon via an additional software update, you will be able to stream music over Wi-Fi or LTE from the YouTube Music app on your Galaxy Watch4, without needing the nearby phone. More options in initial setup
Starting with this update, during the initial configuration of the watch – which could be started in the event of a factory reset – you will be given the option to install the apps already installed on the connected smartphone, if it is compatible with WearOS.
Finally, Samsung announced the expansion of the app Samsung Health Monitor in 11 other countries next March, including Canada, Vietnam and South Africa.
