The Opera browser announces a truly unique novelty: from today accepts web addresses that contain only emojis. A novelty that according to the company can “Bringing a new level of creativity to the whole internet”. And announces a collaboration with Yata company that sells all emoji URLs.
Opera accepts emoji-only web addresses, thanks to Yat
“It has been almost thirty years since the world wide web was launched to the public. And there hasn’t been much innovation in the weblink space: people still include .com in their URLs ” comments Jorgen Arnesen, vice president for Opera furniture. But his company wants to revolutionize this aspect.
And it does so by collaborating with Yat, which generates unique domains when someone registers a URL consisting of a emoji string (which the company calls its own Yat). Whoever owns the Yat can ccreate an NFT of the emoji string and soon the company aims to connect to electronic payments as well.
According to the company, the first to adopt these Yats as their web address are the musicians. For example the singer Kesha has a Yat page made up of emojis Rainbow Alien Rocket, followed by y.at. With this address, you can get to the official Kesha website.
Co-founder of Yat Naveen Jain thinks emojis can allow you to customize your personality online. The company introduced the first page with the address made of emoji from February 1st. But now the integration with Opera allows users to not having to enter y.at in their own web addresses, creating URLs made only of emojis.
We don’t know if this trend will take over, also because for some users, emojis are as simple to use as Egyptian hieroglyphs. But if you want to create a personal blog with your favorite emojisnow you can do it.
