Motorola patents a particular foldable smartphone

Motorola unveiled the Razr clamshell foldable smartphone at the end of 2019 and at the end of 2020 it launched the Motorola Razr 5G.

A Motorola patent recently discovered at WIPO shows a rather unusual clamshell folding smartphone, as it adopts an outward folding system.

The fact that the device’s screen stays out when folded means that a separate external display is not required as is the case with current Razr models or Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series.

The foldable Motorola smartphone on the outside does not seem sturdy

This solution would allow a part of the folding screen to be used as an external display, for example for notifications, the camera viewfinder and more, however the screen would be more exposed to scratches and other types of damage.

This solution has already been adopted for example for Huawei Mate X, but it is not about folding clamshell devices.

In any case, it is worth emphasizing that patents are in no way a guarantee of a commercial release. In fact, most of the time they don’t bring any products on the shelves.

A few days ago the company made official the Motorola Moto G Stylus smartphone (2022) whose strong point is the integrated stylus that allows you to take full advantage of the large 6.8-inch IPS Max Vision 20: 9 display.
