Magic Eraser still creates problems on Google Pixel 6

Google Pixel 6’s Magic Eraser feature allows you to conveniently remove unwanted people and objects from photos. Unfortunately this feature is causing some headaches after a recent Google Photos update.

Various users on Reddit and Twitter are reporting that the Google Photos app crashes when trying to use the Magic Eraser tool.

It seems that the problem is related in particular to the version of Google Photos and for now there doesn’t seem to be a way to fix this flaw.

In response to a couple of complaints, Google Support is advising affected users to follow the troubleshooting steps listed in this support page.

Android 12 was an unusually problematic update for many devices, but for the Google Pixel 6 range the process was particularly troubled.

In December, Google was forced to stop rolling out an update after the owners of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro complained that it was causing connectivity problems, and in November the Magic Eraser tool “magically disappeared” from the Pixel 6 after a Google Photos update.

In case you still have time, you could consider disabling automatic updates for the Google Photos app if you have a smartphone from the Google Pixel 6 family.
