Google Currents will migrate to Spaces starting in 2023


Google Plus was Google’s attempt to create a social network, but the service never broke through and was shut down in April 2019. However, Google Plus continued to exist enterprise-wide as Google Currents within G Suite as an internal communication tool. In a blog post by him, Google yesterday revealed that Currents will soon be disappearing, marking the ultimate end of all things Google Plus.

Google Currents will migrate to Spaces starting in 2023

The Mountain View giant noted that since the launch of Spaces, many customers have reported appreciating the tight integration with Google Workspace products, including Gmail, Calendar, Drive and Meet, and the seamless collaboration experience. As Spaces has been available since last year, Google is planning to reduce Google Currents and bring the remaining content and communities into the new Spaces experience. starting in 2023.

The blog post explains that Google will add some new communication features to Spaces before Currents closes, such as support for larger communities, investments in advanced search, tools for content moderation, and more. Google also says it is investing in search and discoverability, platform features for app development and enterprise-grade security and compliance, including data protection, data loss prevention (DLP) and Vault support.
