Garmin Aviation D2 Air X10, GPS smartwatch for aviators complete with tools to monitor health and well-being

Garmin launched its new smartwatch in Italy at a price of 549.99 euros D2 Air X10, designed with a 1.3-inch circular AMOLED display, specific functions for aeronautics and new technologies that allow the pilot to use his voice to manage calls and messaging from his smartphone thanks to compatibility with Apple Siri and Google voice assistants Assistant and Samsung Bixby. Features that join the dedicated aviation tools, the main feature of Garmin’s D2 Air series, which also include: weather forecasts and reports, Direct-to navigation, airport information, automatic flight log, Pulse Ox1 and much more. In addition, this wearable allows you to make and receive calls directly from your wrist. There is no shortage of the main Garmin features dedicated to monitoring health, well-being and sports activities.

The Garmin D2 Air X10 it comes with a full sized body 43.6×43.6×12.6mm (fits wrists with a circumference of 125-190mm) which weighs approximately 51 grams and with a dial that includes a Amoled display (with support for always-on mode) of diagonal 1.3 inch with 416x416pixel resolution and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Battery autonomy is estimated at up to 7 days in Smartwatch mode, up to 10 days in Smartwatch mode with power saving activated, up to 8 hours in GPS mode with music, up to 24 hours in GPS mode without music, up to 20 hours with GPS SPO2 monitoring. The watch is water resistant with certification grade 5ATM.

Garmin D2 Air X10 offers flight pilots a complete data set for preflight, in-flight and postflight procedures as well as assistance tools. Also, browsing Direct-to allows the activation of the route to any of the airports included in the database, or to another pre-loaded destination. The function Nearest allows you to directly set the flight to the nearest airport. L’horizontal situation indicator (HSI) helps to understand if the plane is positioned in the correct direction, while the barometric altimeter alerts you to reach the desired altitude. They are also included personalized alerts, including: configurable altitude and pressure thresholds, the exceeding of which is notified by a vibration on the wrist; fuel tank timer, to assist with fuel resource management, e off course notifications (XTE) sent when the aircraft departs from the active flight plan.

Garmin D2 Air X10 is capable of making the automatic flight registration, then if the wearable is associated with a compatible device, the data is transferred to the logbook through the Garmin Connect app. Also via the smartphone app, it is possible to send flight plans from Garmin Pilot app to D2 Air X10 and see the list of waypoints included in the planned route. There is also the possibility of knowing in advance airport information such as the orientation and length of the runway, the wind and the frequencies of the airport. The wearable then allows access to observation bulletins (METAR) and forecast bulletins (TAF), useful for updates on visibility, rainfall, dew point and more.

In addition to all these features for flight pilots, the D2 Air X10 is equipped with the main Garmin health monitoring functions, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. In particular: heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen saturation (spO2), stress level and sleep and breathing parameters. The tool is available Body Battery which shows their body’s energy level taking into account the effects of stress and exercise levels that occur throughout the day, and Health Snapshot to generate a health report that can be shared with a healthcare professional. The D2 Air X10 has over 25 pre-loaded workouts and GPS sports apps – such as walking, running, cycling, swimming, golf and more – with additional workouts downloadable from Garmin Connect or create your own from 1,400 exercises.

Garmin D2 Air X10 has a local memory in which up to 650 songs can be saved (including playlists from streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer) and is compatible with contactless payments through Garmin Pay. When connected to your smartphone (Android or Apple) the wearable can also show on-screen notifications for calls, messages, appointment reminders, from social and news apps and more.

In Italy, Garmin offers the D2 Air X10 in the two colors Ivory and Black with a 43mm case, buttons and bezel in brushed stainless steel and reinforced aluminum caseback. The 20mm “quick release” strap is available in different variants.
