From iOS 15, you can securely store verifiable copies of COVID-19 test results and vaccination certificates in the Health app on your iPhone or iPod touch. From iOS 15.1available on Apple iPhone October 25, 2021, you can add a vaccination certificate for COVID-19 in Walletso it is now possible to show verifiable data on vaccinations from Wallet, for those who also have it from their Apple Watch.
The first thing to do is scan the QR code of your COVID-19 vaccination certificate obtained following the vaccination. To do this, just open the Camera app from the main Home screen, Control Center or the lock screen on your iPhone or iPod touch. Select the rear camera. Hold the device so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the Camera app. The device recognizes the QR code and shows a notification from the Health app, so tap this notification and then press ‘Add to Wallet and Health’ to add the data to both the Health app and the Wallet app. To complete the operation press ‘Done’.
If you have received a downloadable file as an alternative to the QR code, you can download a health record sent by the vaccine or COVID-19 test provider and add the relevant data to the Health app: tap the document download link on your iPhone or iPod touch, then press ‘Add to Health’ to add the record to the Health app, then click ‘Done’ to complete the operation.
If you have a verifiable vaccination record already stored in the Health app prior to updating to iOS 15.1 (available October 25, 2021), you can add it to Wallet as well just open the Health app, tap ‘Summary’ and under ‘ Vaccination log ‘click on’ Add to Wallet ‘.
After adding the COVID-19 vaccination certificate in the Wallet app, you can view it and show it at any time, whenever requested: the front of the card shows the name, the type of vaccine (if done), the dates of doses administered, the issuer of the certificate and the QR code. Full details of the vaccination card are not shown until you authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or passcode. Your personal vaccination card cannot be shared with other iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch users.
Apple also released on October 25, 2021 WatchOS 8.1update for Apple Watch which among other things introduced support for vaccine cards for COVID-19 in Apple Wallet, then enables the ability to show verifiable vaccination data from Wallet directly from the wrist.
Note: at the debut of the support for the vaccination certificate for COVID-19 in Wallet we do not know if the ‘Green Pass’ is supported in Italy, the support could be limited only to Americans with the vaccination certificate for COVID-19 issued In the USA.
