Apple tvOS 15 with support for Spatial Audio on AirPods, SharePlay from FaceTime, pairing HomePod mini, new tips on what to watch as a family, and more

At the WWDC21, Apple had previewed for developers a series of innovations for the tvOS platform that powers its Apple TV set-top-box. Not very many but interesting nonetheless, with most now available from September 20, the day of the release of the first official build of tvOS15.

First of all, the support for Space Audio with dynamic head tracking, which works on AirPods Pro And AirPods Max when watching content in 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos: it works by analyzing the data collected by the gyroscopes and accelerometers built into the headphones and has the purpose of making it seem to the listener that the sound is coming from all around him.

In the meantime, from 7 June 2021 they are available on Apple Music the first songs in Dolby Atmosand can also be heard on Apple TV with Dolby Atmos enabled: support for Space Audio is new with tvOS 15.

As part of iOS 15 And iPadOS 15 SharePlay has been announced for FaceTime, which allows you to share experiences with friends or family on iPhone and iPad while chatting in FaceTime, such as listening to Apple Music, watching a movie or episode of a series, and also share your screen to view apps together. SharePlay is available on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and with shared playback controls anyone in the same SharePlay session can start, pause, or skip to the next content. SharePlay also works with Apple TV, allowing you to watch a TV series or movie on the big screen while participating in a FaceTime video call while SharePlay keeps everyone playing in sync. It works with Apple’s apps, but thanks to the SharePlay API also in third-party apps that want it: among the first to have integrated support are Disney +, ESPN +, HBO Max, Hulu, MasterClass, Paramount +, Pluto TV, TikTok , Twitch, and others.

TvOS15 is available from September 20 as a free update for Apple TV and Apple TV 4k.

Note: Not all tvOS15 features may be available as early as September 20th.
